Let it (not) snow, snow,snow!

Our plan was to have Andy fly into O'Hare on Friday morning and then drive to Madison to see Grandma Becker. But, the weather did not cooperate. The weather ended up cancelling Andy's flight out of Seattle into Chicago. So he re-routed to Dallas, to arrive on Sunday late morning. Based on the miserable forecast of freezing rain, sleet and snow for Chicago area on Friday, Phil and I decided to head out on Thursday night to see how far we could get out of the disaster zone before the weather stopped us. Phil got home at 6:30p, we were out the door by 6:45p. I had come home from work and got the car packed - though a little haphazardly - ran to pick up a picture we had had re-framed, stopped for sandwiches at Subway, and got home the same time Phil did. He changed clothes, and away we went.

We got as far as Bloomington, Illinois before the freezing rain started. When the ice started to stick to the windshield, we decided to call it a day. At least we got about 2 1/2 hours under our belts.

In the morning, we slept in a while and then got up to assess the damage. What you saw was a picture of the car covered with ice.
On Friday we drove as far as Atoka, OK and then called it a day. We were just a couple hours out from Dallas, but were tired, so decided to drive the rest of the way on Saturday.
We got to Dallas on Saturday at about 10:15a. Emma and her parents were waiting for us! Yeah. But, unfortunately, there was going to be bad weather in Seattle, so Andy's flight into Dallas on Sunday was now cancelled. Calgon, take me away! Good news, as of Sunday morning, Andy now has a flight out of Seattle on American that will arrive tonight at 9:15p. Keep your fingers crossed that this one actually gets here. His Mom just wants all her chicks under one roof! After all, it is Christmas. And, more important, the slush is waiting, as is Emma! Merry Christmas!!
I will load pictures from our trip into the blog when we get back.
