Vacation at Becker Bay

We just got back from vacation at Becker Bay. We left after work on Friday the 27th and headed up north to Wisconsin. Right when we got to the cottage, Norb called, so we unpacked quickly, picked him up, and then went to the lodge for dinner and adult beverages. A great way to start off a relaxing week.

Saturday dawned bright and early. The projects were started with Phil and Norb dismantling the rotten wooden decking directly behind the garage and replacing it with a composite decking. The main project took days, but looks great. Phil also built steps off the shed so they match the decking as well. My job was to feed the guys. So, I had to go to the store(Wally world in the Rapids) (Super WalMart) and buy provisions, and then cook the provisions. Karyl was up in St. Cloud visiting the Jen, Shawn and the girls, so I was on my own.
Sunday the kitchen sink was replaced as well. We had taken our old sink from Illinois that had been replaced when the kitchen project there was done and brought it up north, as it was in much better shape than what was in the cottage. As you can see, we have 2 men hard at work; all fingers accounted for! Behold, the finished project. Now, we look much better!
Monday Phil worked more on the step building project and then on the boat we went. The weather was perfect! 70's and low 80's the entire week. Who could ask for more. Clear blue skies made for great boating weather.
Wednesday we drove to Madison to take Grandma Becker out to lunch. While on that road trip we discussed the deck and how it was in really terrible shape. The outdoor carpet we had put on it 3 years ago was very scuzzy and needed to be taken off. So, we did, and decided to also redeck in the composite decking. But, the boards that are on the deck are nailed on, and what a pain to take them off. We redid 3 boards, and then came to the conclusion that it would take us way too long to do it ourselves, and bite the bullet and get it done by the same guy who did our lower deck walkway to the water. Smart thinking on our part, huh?

Friday the 4th we continued our boating extravaganza and then went over to Norb and Karyl's for dinner. Jay, Sarah, and the kids were up for the weekend, and we wanted to spend some time with them as well. We had gotten Bryn and Henry a Play-Doh caddy (Stacy suggestion) for their birthday, which was a big hit!
Saturday afternoon we went back to N&K's for a quick dinner (always includes more adult beverages), then the water ski show on Lake Sherwood and then fireworks. It was the conclusion of a great week, great times, with relaxing along the way. I did have to do some studying for work, but tried to not let that interfere with cottage time.

Thanks Jay and Sarah for allowing me to copy your fireworks picture. Mine didn't turn out very well.
